PGA Championship’s Final Round Garners Lowest Viewership Since 2008

  • Sunday’s final round on CBS reportedly drew 4.517 million viewers, the lowest final round since 2008.
  • The low ratings happened as Brooks Kopeka became the first LIV Golf member to win a major championship.
CBS's final round broadcast dropped 14% compared to 2022.

Sunday’s final round of the PGA Championship on CBS drew 4.517 million viewers, the lowest total since 2008, according to Nielsen ratings from ShowBuzz Daily.

The PGA’s dwindling viewership figure came as Brooks Koepka earned his fifth major championship and became the first current LIV Golf member to win a major championship.

Michael Block, a club pro who works in Southern California, also shocked viewers with a memorable performance that included a hole-in-one to finish tied for 15th at Oak Hill Country Club. He secured $288,333 and a spot in next year’s PGA Championship.

Despite those storylines, CBS’s viewership on Sunday was down 14% from last year’s PGA Championship won by Justin Thomas. This year’s 4.517 million viewers was the lowest since 4 million watched the PGA Championship’s final round in 2008, per Sports Media Watch.

Sunday was also the first PGA Championship final round since 2019 to not reach 5 million viewers. 5 million watched in 2019, followed by 5.2M in 2020, 6.6M in 2021, and 5.273M in 2022.
