Lakers superstar LeBron James told reporters after Wednesday night’s preseason game in Las Vegas that he wants to own a team in the city someday.

“It was wonderful. It’s the best fan base in the world, and I would love to bring a team here at some point,” James said, smiling. “That would be amazing.”

James’ Lakers fell to the Phoenix Suns 119-115 at T-Mobile Arena, the first of two games Los Angeles will play in Las Vegas this preseason. The Lakers previously played preseason games there in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

James addressed league commissioner Adam Silver directly Wednesday night, telling Silver he wants to own the team that comes to Las Vegas. The city has been frequently mentioned as a likely landing spot should the league expand, which has been a frequent topic of discussion in recent years.

“I know Adam is in Abu Dhabi right now, I believe, with the Bucks and Atlanta, but he probably sees every single interview and transcript that comes through from NBA players,” James said. “So I want the team here, Adam. Thank you.”

Over the summer, James said on an episode of “The Shop,” his talk show, that owning a team was “for sure” in his plans.

James tallied a game-high 23 points to go with four assists in 17 minutes of action Wednesday night.
