St. Louis Cardinals broadcaster Dan McLaughlin was arrested for driving while intoxicated on Sunday and later charged with felony persistent DWI, according to the Creve Coeur (MO) Police Department.

McLaughlin was seen Sunday evening failing to maintain a single lane on northbound I-270 by police after they received two separate reports of a suspicious vehicle believed to be operated by an impaired driver. He was then stopped and arrested based on the results of a field sobriety test and the officer’s personal observations, according to police.

The 48-year-old previously pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated in November 2010 and November 2011.

McLaughlin has served as the television play-by-play voice of the St. Louis Cardinals for more than 20 seasons, and has called Saint Louis Billikens and Missouri Valley Conference basketball game telecasts. He was also a finalist for the 2022 Missouri sports broadcaster of the year from the National Sports Media Association.

“We have been made aware that Dan McLaughlin was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated on Sunday night,” Bally Sports and the Cardinals said in a statement to The Athletic on Monday. “We are very disappointed to hear this, and are working to gather additional information before offering further comment.”

McLaughlin declined to provide a statement to The Athletic on the arrest.
