5/6/2024 |  NBC will stick with dual announcers and analysts for the US Open (Associated Press (AP)) NBC Sports has been without a permanent analyst in the 18th tower all year, and that’s not going to change for the U.S. Open.
The network announced its commentary team Monday: Dan Hicks and Mike Tirico will share play-by-play duties with an analyst assigned to each. The four-wide booth will have Hicks calling even-numbered holes with Brandel Chamblee and Tirico calling the odd-numbered holes with Brad Faxon.
NBC also said Roger Maltbie would return as an on-course reporter, while Gary Koch would be a booth analyst alongside Steve Sands during early coverage. The contracts of Koch and Maltbie were not renewed after 2022.
4/30/2024 |  Sports Facilities Companies to Operate New Cape Coral Venue (SportsTravel) Cape Coral, a racquet center slated to open in July 2024, will be operated by the Sports Facilities Companies in partnership with the city of Cape Coral, located in the Fort Myers region of Florida.
SFC will control the management efforts, overseeing marketing and booking, staff development and training, guest services, food and beverage offerings and grounds maintenance. The facility will feature 32 pickleball courts suitable for large-scale events and 12 tennis courts for competitive matches and leagues.
4/25/2024 |  French Open to reveal second retractable roof court at Roland Garros ahead of Olympics (Associated Press (AP)) PARIS (AP) — The second retractable roof at Roland Garros will be inaugurated on the opening day of the French Open next month, organizers said on Thursday about a project planned with the Paris Olympics in mind.
A ceremony for the roof over the 10,000-seat Suzanne Lenglen court will be held on May 26 when play starts in the main draws, tournament director Amelie Mauresmo said at a news conference.
4/19/2024 |  Bulgarian umpire banned for life over corruption violations (Reuters Sports) April 19 (Reuters) - Bulgarian umpire Pavel Atanasov has been banned from tennis for life after withdrawing his appeal for betting-related violations and charges of corruption, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) said on Friday.
Atanasov, a national-level official, was also given a $10,000 fine for 21 breaches of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP).
"In withdrawing from proceedings, Atanasov effectively admitted liability for numerous TACP offenses between 2019 and 2023," the ITIA said.
