Financing

The Jackson Generals were purchased in 1998 by Nolan Ryan who moved the team to a new ballpark in Round Rock, TX, for the 2000 season. The team was highly successful as a Double-A franchise and the Ryans decided to make it a Triple-A team. The original franchise was moved to Corpus Christi.
The team broke Double-A records for a fourth year with 685,973 total fans attending games. That led the Ryans to also plan for upgrades to the ballpark to meet Triple-A standards.
In the first round of improvements, the Express boosted capacity from 7,816 to 10,000. The first expansion at the Diamond added six luxury suites to the original inventory of 24. It also added 1,000 general seats. Later construction includes a conference center expansion and a new ballpark entrance. Reid Ryan says the entrance might be financed by the team. The total work would cost $1.6 million with at least $800,000 funded by the team. The city gets its money from an existing hotel tax.
The team has two more stadium improvements in mind that could cost up to $2.3 million. That request will come at a later date. The current $25 million ballpark opened in 1998 and Ryan contributed $17.6 million to the cost. (Baseball. Facilities, Financial, MinorTeam, Professional Sports, Venue)
