12/20/2024 |  Athletes Unlimited shuts down its lacrosse league as the sport’s calendar becomes crowded (Gist Sports, The) On Wednesday, Athletes Unlimited (AU) announced it’s indefinitely suspending its AU Pro Lacrosse league. After jumpstarting opportunities in four sports — softball, basketball, lacrosse, and volleyball — within the past four years, this is the first time the company has suspended operations for one of its leagues.
12/2/2024 |  Pan-American Lacrosse Association Extends Partnership with Visit Central Florida Sports (SportsTravel) The Pan-American Lacrosse Association and Visit Central Florida Sports have renewed their partnership through 2028, coinciding with lacrosse’s return to the 2028 Olympic Summer Games in Los Angeles after nearly a century.
The partnership, which began in 2019, allows PALA to be based at the offices of Visit Central Florida Sports (Polk County Tourism and Sports Marketing) in Auburndale and provides PALA member nations access for training and hosting alacrosse competitions and tournaments through PALA at facilities throughout Polk County.
11/15/2024 |  Wichita to Host USA Lacrosse National Championship Event in 2025 (SportsTravel) The USA Lacrosse Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association national championship is returning for the second straight year to Wichita, Kansas from May 7–10, 2025, at the Scheels Stryker Sports Complex.
Nearly 150 non-varsity collegiate teams comprise the WCLA and compete under the USA Lacrosse umbrella. The annual Division I and Division II National Championships feature 16 Division I clubs and 12 Division II. Last year’s championship in Wichita produced a pair of first-time champions, with UCLA claiming the Division I title and Vermont winning the Division II championship.
11/15/2024 |  Women’s Lacrosse League launches amid sport’s continued growth (Gist Sports, The) On Wednesday, the men’s Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) launched the Women’s Lacrosse League (WLL), a new pro women’s league set to take the field in February 2025. PLL communications manager Grace Hamilton chatted with The GIST yesterday to shed light on the league’s decision to go pro on the women’s side.
8/14/2024 |  Indianapolis to Host Inaugural USA Lacrosse Experience (SportsTravel) USA Lacrosse will welcome the men’s and women’s national teams from Colombia, Great Britain and Puerto Rico to Indianapolis to compete against the U.S. teams during the international portion of the inaugural USA Lacrosse Experience from October 11–13.
The international competition will utilize the new sixes discipline that will be used in the 2028 Olympic Summer Games in Los Angeles. Sixes is a fast-paced version of the sport played on a smaller field with fewer players in a condensed game length and a 30-second shot clock. All games will be played at Michael A. Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium.
