The ECHL Stingrays were joined by the NBDL Lowgators in 2001. Built in 1993, there are eight luxury suites that seat 10.
The City of North Charleston renegotiated its lease with Arena Ventures to boost revenue to the city for hosting an NBDL franchise. Arena Ventures is a partnership between the NBA and ClearChannel Entertainment and was formed to launch the new minor basketball league.
The venture also sought to book acts in arenas where teams played, but ClearChannel was not able to place the acts in most of the venues and ended up paying money to the cities. Attendance at the basketball games was also below expectations. The building lost $300,000 in 2002.
The new deal with North Charleston allows the city to reclaim naming rights and advertising rights for the Coliseum. The city also got $175,000 in compensation and will not be required to pay luxury suite earnings and $124,000 promised to acquire the team. Arena Ventures also promised to book only 20 events each year instead of 30. Only five events were booked last year. The company must make concerts at least eight of the events and must pay $2,500 for each concert date missed. It will also pay the city $12,500 for each event under 20 that it misses.
The Stingrays offer a special Power Play season ticket package at $494 to $681 per seat and includes all possible playoff games and special player events. (Facilities, Financial, Ice Hockey, Professional Sports, Venue)
