Financing
Kansas City voters approved an increase in car rental fees by $4 per day and hotel rooms by $1.50 per day to fund the $250 million venue.
Guests at the building will pay a $1 or $2 surcharge to their tickets which would be applied to arena debt. The project will get $10 million from the National Association of Basketball Coaches which would build a hall of fame at the arena. The city expects to finance $170 million of the debt with payments of $13.2 million a year. Annual funding would include $3.375 million from the hotel fee, $7 million from the car rental fee and $4 million from the ticket surcharge and contract revenue such as the naming rights.
The arena was developed by the Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) which invested $50 million in the property. The firm will also attempt to bring an NBA or NHL franchise to the building.
The building does not have club seats, per se, but it does have a club membership at $3,500 per year. The price allows the buyer to purchase up to four tickets for an event and gives them access to a private club available to membership owners and luxury suite buyers.
