It will cost the state of Rhode Island more than $90 million to buy and upgrade the Dunkin' Donuts Center arena. The project will be funded with state bonds repaid over 30 years and work began in 2006.
The purchase price to be paid to the City of Providence would be $28.5 million with another $62 million to be invested in renovation. The balance would be financing costs.
The work included luxury boxes, new seats, a new scoreboard, new concession stands, a pedestrian connector to the adjacent convention center and all-new mechanical systems that would provide the state with an opportunity to market itself to large conventions and sports tournaments. The arena would be linked to the convention center and they would be jointly managed and marketed by the authority. (Facilities, Financial, Ice Hockey, Professional Sports)
