After the 2002 season the Shreveport Swamp Dragons moved to Frisco, Texas, and a brand new ballpark.
The 9,000-seat ballpark is part of a complex that includes a practice facility for the Dallas Stars. The development was driven by the Southwest Sports Group, a firm that includes the Stars and Tom Hicks, owner of the MLB Rangers.
The $65 million Frisco development includes offices, hotels, apartments and retail establishments. The ballpark cost $22 million, the Stars' practice facility $20 million, parking and other infrastructure $14.75 million and $8.25 million went for land. The bonds will be repaid from lease payments from Southwest Sports which will pay $800,000 a year for the ballpark and $700,000 for the training facility. The city will own both venues.
The company gets all building revenues, plus naming rights earnings and luxury suite lease fees. It will also pay for maintenance. (Baseball, Facilities, Financial, MinorLeagueVenueReport, Professional Sports)
