Financing
The $175 million United Center was primarily privately funded, but the project did receive $15 million in city and state grants. The city also provided real estate tax abatements. Pct. public: 9
The NHL Chicago Blackhawks and the NBA Bulls play at United Center. The facility, built with private funds at a cost of $175 million, opened in 1994 and replaced Chicago Stadium. The United Center was the site of Sony's first indoor Jumbotron. The United Center is owned by the owners of the Bulls and the Blackhawks.
For the 2009 season, the venue added Theater Boxes to the facility. At $90,000 for a one year rental, fans get Bulls and Blackhawks tickets, the rights to buy playoff tickets and the right to buy tickets for other arena events. Two parking passes are included. The suites are designed for four guests.
The venue has suites leasing for various prices depending upon the food options requested. The suites seat 20 to 80 fans.
Static electronic signage for the Bulls begins at $50,000 for a 2 foot by 15 foot space. The price provides one minute of game clock exposure on the 200 level. Animated messaging goes for $175,000 per minute.
Rotational signs providing three minutes per game on the sidelines are $225,000 and tunnel banners are $100,000 per pair.
The building sells signage on the 300 level and charges $200,000 for a one minute message for each Bulls and Blackhawks game.
