In 1997, John Thurman Field was built at a cost of $3.8 million. Capacity later was expanded from 2,500 to 4,100 seats. Phase II of the renovations was completed in 1999. That includes renovations to the pressbox.
The Modesto Bee newspaper put in $250,000 to help build one of the two suites as part of the 1997 renovation. The newspaper has use of the suite for 10 years. The second suite is leased for half the season to local auto dealers for $1,500. It is leased on a game-day basis during other times.
