The team funded the ballpark, but the city spent nearly $8 million on land and infrastructure work.
The team moved to Greenville in 2006 from Columbia, S.C., and officials expect to see their previous average attendance of 1,600 per game increase with the new $15 million venue. The design is intended to be reminiscent of Boston's Fenway Park.
Like Fenway, the ballpark sits on a former lumberyard, and could eventually incorporate the West End firehouse. The design calls for the structure to be as low as possible along the sidewalk, in some places like a one-story building.
There are nearly 5,000 seats in the stadium, some have seat backs and arms, others are concrete benches with backs and still others are metal bleachers without seat backs.
The ballpark has 17 luxury suites, each holding about 18 people, with an additional owner suite and a press box facility. The dominant material will be brick, and the canopy roof will be a dark green. (BaseballMinor, Facilities, Financial, Professional Sports)
