The ballpark was privately funded.
After hitting their goal in 1999 of 1,800 season tickets for the 2000 season, the Double-A Chattanooga Lookouts announced plans to move ahead with a new $10 million ballpark built with private funds. The city waived property taxes on the venue and the 6,000-seat ballpark opened in 2000.
BellSouth paid a reported $1 million for naming rights to the Lookouts' new ballpark. Under the 10-year deal, the venue will be called BellSouth Park. A luxury suite and advertising are part of the deal. (BaseballMinor, Facilities, Financial, Professional Sports)
