Financing
The city is funding 80 percent of the $70 million venue from a rooms and meals tax. The rest is coming from the Enron Energy Services and Ogden Entertainment.
The city's civic center opened in 2001 and hosts occasional games by the University of New Hampshire's hockey team as well as the Monarchs and the Wolves.
The Verizon Wireless Arena took fourth place in gross ticket sales in Billboard magazine's 2002 ranking of venues with 15,000 or fewer seats. It was the arena's first year of business.
The building recorded nearly $10 million in sales for 52 non-sports events. The success brought the city about $400,000 in unbudgeted profits.
Fans wanting to attend events at the new arena pay parking fees of $5 to $10 at city-owned lots. The fees are twice as high as expected.
Party suites holding 18 to 25 persons lease for $480 to $1,000 per game. (Facilities, Financial, Ice HockeyMinor, Professional Sports)
