At the conclusion of the Frontier League's 2001 season, an ownership group from Washington, Penn., purchased the Canton Crocodiles and moved the franchise to Washington. The team became known as the Wild Things and began play in 2002 at a newly-constructed stadium. The ballpark is also home to Washington and Jefferson College and California University of Pennsylvania.
In 2003, the team added more parking space and concession stands to the venue to ease crowding problems. Another 200 seats were also added to the ballpark. A picnic pavilion, a kids party/arcade pavilion, cosmetic improvements to the entrance on the first base side of the field and some landscaping work were also done.
