Financing
The city put $43.5 million toward the $55 million building. Hicks Sports Marketing Group contributed $12 million and leased the building and land for $2 million over 25 years, with an option to purchase 17 acres of the 31-acre site for $2.6 million. Hicks could develop that land into commercial, retail and/or residential buildings.
The city expected to take out $43 million in certificates of obligation, bonds that do not require voter approval, to fund the project. These will be repaid through sales tax revenue that was approved by voters in 2006.
After years of reviewing proposals and courting private partners, the City of Cedar Park scored a major goal when the council signed on to build a $55 million events center with the owners of the National Hockey League's Dallas Stars.
As part of the deal with Hicks Sports Marketing Group, the city expects to be the home of the Dallas Stars' American Hockey League affiliate team. (Facilities, Financial, Ice Hockey, Minor League, Professional Sports, Venue)
