Financing
The $16.1 million ballpark was funded with $5.1 million in cash from the city and the issuance of a $11 million certificate of participation, to be repaid from the general fund and lease revenues. The team pays base rent of $150,000, plus 4 percent of gross revenues over $3,250,000.
The ballpark, built in 1995, replaces the original Durham Athletic Park seen in the movie "Bull Durham." With seating close to 10,000, an additional 3,000 seats were added for the 1998 season. The Durham Bulls moved from the A Carolina League to the AAA International League South for the 1998 season. In 2000, the team added a new LED scoreboard.
For its 20th season in 2014, the venue received an extensive $20 million makeover. The upgrades include the PNC Triangle Club, the playing field and lighting, video boards and the sound system, concessions, picnic areas and seating.
The 5,000-square-foot club room will be available to suite holders and any season-ticket holder who purchased a $650 membership. It accommodates 225 fans directly behind home plate with a full glass view of the field. There will be a private bar, dining options that change nightly, a dessert bar and carving station, outdoor access to the stands, complimentary parking, unlimited Pepsi products and premium drink vouchers.
Members can sit in lounge-style padded seats outside the club room or box seats behind home plate. Inside the club room will be 17 HDTVs, club seats and a high-grade sound system. (Baseball, Facilities, Minor League, Professional Sports, Venue)
