With a state grant and bonds, Biloxi intended to build a ballpark, parking garage, and overpass walkway and do it within a $36 million budget. That changed when the city learned that AA ballparks required at least 6,000 seats. The city issued additional bonds which brought the price up to $38 million. The project also got $15 million from the state.
The Biloxi City Council voted 5-2 in 2014 to build a ballpark downtown, on land the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino will lease to the city for $1 a year. The Shuckers, which moved from Huntsville, Ala., planned to move into the ballpark for the start of the 2015, but that was delayed. (Facilities, Baseball, Minor League, Professional Sports, Venue)
