The $22.3 million ballpark's funding included $13 million in lease-backed revenue bonds issued by the Municipal Building Authority, to be repaid from stadium revenue. The team pays $300,000 per year in rent.
Built in 1994, Franklin-Covey Field has one of the largest capacity ballparks in the AAA League. Naming rights were sold to Franklin-Covey for $1.4 million in 1997. The venue later became Spring Mobile Ballpark and in 2014, Smith's Ballpark.
The Bees' new owner talked with officials in the Salt Lake suburb of Sandy about building a new ballpark near a new MLS soccer stadium.
