Kingston is in the process of building a new 5,000-seat arena for the Frontenacs and community use. Naming rights have been sold for the venue, but the buyer was not disclosed by press time.
In the first year, naming rights are budgeted to bring in C$150,000 after costs and the commission to the consultants who attracted the sponsor.
The net value of the deal will increase by three per cent annually. Over the course of the agreement, the net value to the city will be about C$1.7 million, above the net value of C$1.64 million outlined in the original business plan.
But the agreement also includes something else: $150,000 per year of in-kind product and services.
The city doesn't share naming rights revenues with the Frontenacs hockey team, but it will have to share half of C$7,000 in rink board advertising with the team. The winning company will have its logo on the boards.
Venue officials have taken deposits for 24 of the 26 luxury suites planned for the venue. The suites include eight to 10 seats and cost between CAN$15,000 and roughly CAN$23,000 annually. The building will have 400 club seats.
The city’s new C$46.1 million arena will be funded by public funds and C$2 million in private donations. The building is scheduled to open in 2008. (Facilities, Ice Hockey, Minor League, Professional Sports, Venue)
